Juicing has been an OBSESSION of mine over the last year and I’ve loved experimenting with different combinations of all my favorite and some not-quite-as-much (ahem…kale).
Cold-pressed bottled juices are widely available now, whether from a big retailer like Whole Foods or local shops (a few of my favorites are listed below). However purchasing juice regularly can be quite costly—trust me, your wallet will be much lighter) so I’ve enjoyed having access to a juicer over the past few months.
Sidenote: Cleaning a juicer is a pain in the butt so we tend to juice a bunch at once and store extras in airtight containers in the fridge for a couple days instead of juicing every day.
Juicing is known to reduce the risk of cancer, boost your immune system, aid in digestion, and help remove toxins from your body. Plus it’s a great way to add fruits and vegetables to your diet.
Did you know that only one in ten Americans get their daily recommended 5-7 servings of fruit and vegetables? That’s insane! And extremely unfortunate for the state of our health.
Essentially juicing provides the nutrients of its ingredients in an easily digestible format. Your body is able to get the nutrients it needs with less food and thus is often helpful in weight loss.
The perfect way to detox and reboot your system from processed food.
Often referred to as “Orange Drank” in our house, this bright, invigorating, and sweet blend is one I make at least once a week. I love, love, love the zing of the ginger that follows each sip.
We decided to change the official name to Sunrise Juice because the orange is the perfect color to get you moving in the morning…and well Carrot, Orange, Pineapple, and Ginger Juice is a mouthful.
Here’s why it’s so great:
Carrotsare a powerhouse vegetable—just one cup of carrots provides 400% of one’s vitamin A needs! The beta carotene and other carotenoids are known to protect eye and brain health, decrease risk of heart disease and cancer, improve immunity, and help the body heal.
There’s no reason not to like oranges! They’re low in calories and packed full of nutrients. Sweet and slightly tangy, an orange can provide 130% of one’s daily vitamin C needs. Oranges can promote clean, healthy skin, lower blood pressure, and combat free radicals.
Some say good morning, but this juice says Aloha! The addition of the tropical pineapple is excellent for building strong bones, aiding indigestion, boosting the immune system, reducing inflammation in the sinuses or caused by the common cold. Plus one cup of pineapple chunks contain only 82 calories.
Last but certainly not least—ginger root! Ginger is my savior. It has been used for thousand of years for medicinal purposes and with good reason, the taste and heath benefits are ahh-mazing! It helps relieve nausea and pain, reduce inflammation, aid in digestion, provide cold and flu relief, and maintain blood sugar levels, among tons of other things.
Don’t have a juicer? No problem, check out some of my favorite juices from the Nashville and D.C. area.
