Washington National Cathedral // Washington D.C.
The Washington National Cathedral is the sixth largest cathedral in the world and the second largest in the U.S. This limestone Neo-Gothic structure is an architectural gem, complete with gargoyles, stained glass windows, vaulted ceilings, an ornate pipe organ, and even a labyrinth.
At the height of 676 feet above sea level, the central tower of The Washington National Cathedral is the highest point in D.C. Visitors and locals alike can see the ornate structure from all around the district and hear its 53 carillon bells ring daily.
The cathedral plays hosts for major evenings including state funerals for presidents and government officials as well as inauguration prayer services and memorial services for notable people. Historic figures such as President Woodrow Wilson and Helen Keller are buried in its columbarium.
