St. Mary's Cathedral // Sydney
St. Mary’s Cathedral next to Sydney’s Hyde Park may not be recognized worldwide like some other buildings in the city (*cough* Sydney Opera House), but it’s an architectural gem and city landmark nonetheless.
Constructed of sandstone in Geometric Decorated Gothic-style, St. Mary’s has the greatest length of any church in Australia—complete with flying buttressses, twin spires, pipe organ, and stained glass windows.
Each December St. Mary’s front facade serves as the backdrop for a stunning music, dancing lights and projection Christmas show. Families gather to get in the holiday spirit, enjoy picnics, and spent time together. LeBraun and I spent an evening relaxing on the plaza enjoying the festive atmosphere and vivid light show. (Remember December is mid-Summer in Australia so it was perfect weather for an evening outside)
