Leaning Tower of Pisa // Italy
Leaning Tower of Pisa // Italy
This freestanding bell tower of the cathedral in the Italian city of Pisa is known worldwide for its nearly four-degree lean. The lean is the result of an unstable foundation/soft ground on one side and the structure’s weight. The tilt actually began during the tower’s construction in the 12th century.
It has since become a major tourist attraction as visitors love to take forced perspective photos with it. It’s common for people to pretend they’re “supporting” the tower, leaning against it, pushing it upright, or on the opposite end pretending to kick the tower over.
Worried the tower will fall over? Thanks for its restoration project, the tower is expected to stand for at least another 200 years! …But just in case, snag an illustration of the Leaning Tower of Pisa in it’s full glory.
