Covering 48-acres of Manhattan real estate, Grand Central has 44 platforms! That’s more than any other railway station in the world. The Beaux-Arts design is a work of art in itself. Travelers and visitors alike flock to Grand Central to marvel at the celestial mural on the barrel-vaulted ceiling of the main concourse, walk around the classic 18-side information booth and clock, watched the “big board” of departures flip over, and to enjoy annual events throughout its many elegant halls. The current facilities were commissioned by Cornelius Vanderbilt and opened in 1913.
